Synopsis
Charles Lindsay's photographs offer a humorous and inquisitive foray into the hazards of lost golf balls - rough, woods, bunkers and wetlands - as well as unexpected encounters with wildlife on and off the green. An avid golfer, he photographs his way to the heart of the matter with a light touch and an eye for telling details. In the process he discovers balls ravaged by golfers, 'gators and foxes. Lindsay even comes face to face with what is believed to be the world's oldest golf ball - unearthed in a cellar in the Netherlands alongside a primitive club - and the infamous spot in the tall grass where Tiger Woods lost a ball that cost him the British Open. There are photographs from golf courses all over the world. The Foreword by John Updike is a celebration of golf and nature and why the two are not always compatible. A humorous anecdote by Greg Norman and quotes from other well-known golfers and celebrities also appear throughout the book.

Dieses Buch ist ein passendes Geschenk für Golfer, die schon fast alles haben. Aber man kann sich auch selbst an den technisch brillanten und äußerst witzigen Bildern erfreuen, die zeigen, dass man nicht alleine immer die Bälle sucht - wenn meist auch nicht in so extremen Situationen.Das Buch gibt es nur in Englisch, aber das sollte kein Hinderungsgrund sein, denn soviel Englisch für die Bildunterschriften versteht ja fast jeder - und wenn nicht: die Bilder sprechen für sich!Ein besseres Golfer-Geschenk als das 15. oder 25. Buch über den perfekten Schwung, den ja eh fast keiner hat!
Wer mal etwas jenseits der üblichen ernst oder komisch gemeinten Golfliteratur sucht und schöne Bilder mag, dem sei dieses Buch ans Herz gelegt. Neben den tollen, zum Teil amüsanten Fotos sind auch die golfphilosophischen Ausführungen von John Updike ein Höhepunkt. Unter diesen Gesichtpunkten sehr empfehlenswert.

Made a happy birthday guy even happier, got all party guests immediately starting to talk about what similar shots they managed to take and got them talking about almost nothing else the whole evening: Favorite coffee table book ever since. Nice pictures of incredible Golf situations you can boost every gathering with. Really nice to have!
